Supporting household resilience in Madascar through livestock

USAID Androy Livestock Recovery

Around 1.4 million people are estimated to be food insecure in Madagascar's three southern regions of Androy, Anosy, and Atsimo-Andrefana. To respond to this situation, USAID OFDA Andory Livestock Recovery supported 3,000 households in Madagascar's Androy- Ambovombe Region to recover from recurring shocks and stressors. Reaching over 21,000 beneficiaries, the project reduced risk by strengthening the animal health system and community capacities to respond to effects of disasters, strengthen the resiliency of vulnerable communities, and reduce exposure to hazards. Livestock training topics included housing infrastructure for livestock, animal health, water use, reproduction practices, contingency planning and animal disease prevention. The project also supported farmers to improve their ability to save funds for animal health care.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE AMAZING RESULTS:
29,500
