Stabilizing household food security after Cyclone Idai

Mozambique Integrated Recovery and Resilience Project

Tropical Cyclone Idai made landfall in the Beira Corridor of Mozambique in March 2019, causing strong winds and severe flooding that severely affected smallholder farmers and vulnerable households just prior to the harvest season. Many households lost their crops, seed storage and productive assets that are critical for household food security. To address these needs, Land O'Lakes Venture37 implemented the Mozambique Integrated Recovery and Resilience Project (MIRAR) funded by USAID/OFDA to help approximately 70,000 individuals stabilize their household food security during the main agricultural season by supporting their recovery of mixed seed assets. Venture37 distributed maize, short season cowpea, mid-season pigeon pea and lablab bean seeds to approximately 15,000 vulnerable households.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE AMAZING RESULTS:
94,800
people benefitted from seed distribution
105
metric tons of maize and bean seeds distributed
464
percent increase in farm-wide maize yield
