USDA Liberia Food for Progress Activity

USDA Liberia Food for Progress Activity

This USDA Food for Progress project worked to revitalize Liberia's meat processing industry and restore food safety and quality standards by promoting commercial goat production. We sought to harness the potential that livestock, such as cattle and goats, have for restoring the nation's agricultural economy and improving livelihoods. In collaboration with the Government of Liberia, the project trained and certified processors in safe handling techniques and developed a seal of quality. This initiative also prevented and treated animal diseases by rebuilding local capacity for veterinary, animal health and livestock husbandry extension services.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE AMAZING RESULTS:
115
community animal health workers trained
$14,700
of goat meat sales generated
583
farmers received goats
