Funded by USAID and led by Save the Children, this flagship multi-sector nutrition and WASH project improved the nutritional status of women and children in Ethiopia's four productive regions, focusing on the first 1,000 days (from conception to age two). Building off the former ENGINE project, Growth Through Nutrition worked across all government and society levels to bring multi-sectoral nutrition programming to community levels. As a sub-partner, Venture37's role was to increase access to safe and quality foods through nutrition sensitive livelihood activities. Specifically, we promoted more nutritious and productive varieties of vegetables, fruits, legumes, bio-fortified crops and small livestock.
The program improved dietary diversity by promoting nutrition-sensitive agriculture to the most vulnerable households.
Through a focus on behavior change, the program encouraged families to adopt positive health and nutrition, WASH, agricultural, and nutrition-sensitive practices.
The program applied quality improvement approached and improved competencies of services providers to strengthen provision of nutrition-related services.
