Expanding markets and production along the dairy value chain

USDA Tanzania Dairy Development Program

From cow to consumer, the USDA Food for Progress Tanzania Dairy Development Program (TDDP) improved commercial milk production, processing, marketing, and consumer awareness of dairy products across Tanzania. TDDP trained on safe milk handling, good hygiene, manufacturing, and milk testing procedures. TDDP partnered with cooperatives and local processors to improve infrastructure in 85 milk collection and processing facilities. By project close, 20,000 farmers were trained on milk production, collection and storage; the dairy industry saw a $12.3 million increase in annual gross value of production. There was a 30 percent increase in milk sold by farmer households each day.
